Biden:
These times require more than a good soldier. They require a wise leader. A leader who can deliver. I've been disappointed in my friend, John McCain, who gave in to the right wing of his party and yielded to the very 'Swift Boat' politics that he once so deplored. Folks, campaigns for presidents are a test of character and leadership.
Works for me!
In the primaries, Obama ran as a progressive. Now he runs toward the center as a liberal. Now, by change you can believe in means little more than:
i) Not Bush, or someone who thinks like him;
ii) Working our way, by any means possible, out of the hole that Bush left us in.
That should be enough to beat any one running in Bush's image. It's not change I can believe in, but it will satisfy the electorate.
Didn't I say it had to be Biden? Yes, that's what I said. I said that in the beginning, when everyone else was parading the unthinkables before our eyes, like Bayh and Kaine. It had to be Biden.
Stella, Biden's vast and varied voting record does not invalidate him as the 2nd place on the ticket, as it would at the head of the ticket.
As the scholar Steven Zunes pointed out,
"one of Obama's strongest distinctions from McCain was his wisdom and courage in opposing the invasion of Iraq. By choosing Biden, however, who was as big a backer of the war as the Republican nominee, Obama is now saying that this doesn't really matter, thereby negating one of his biggest advantages. Biden's 'experience' is that of a militarist whose contempt for international law has been apparent in hard-line positions on Iraq ..."
I am not thrilled. Far from it. But it could have been worse. Easily.
Biden is a good choice. Face it, Vigil: 40% Democrats believed in the Iraq war: they just blame Bush for his incompetent leadership.
As far as the veep alternatives, in arithmetic phrasing:
Joe > Hillary + Bill
Biden is a party-unifier.
Along with Vigilante, I don't feel Obama's judgment is infallible. That said, having cut General Clark's feet out from under him, Barrack chose the best man left standing.
Speaking of the fallibility of judgment by presidential nominees, what about Al Gore's V-P selection in 2000? Ron Klain, was a chief of staff to Vice President Al Gore and was involved in selecting a running mate for Gore in 2000. He pointed out that Gore's choice that year came down to three people: Joe Lieberman, John Kerry and John Edwards:
"He selected Lieberman, and the two men not selected in 2000 wound up being our national ticket in 2004".
Yeah, and the other one, the one Gore selected, ended up as a DINO by 2004.

Messenger, yes I would have been excited about Clark too, but I think Biden's got the chops to be VP. I wasn't saying BO's judgment is infallible, I was saying it's better than mine :-)

Yes, Soros, I think so, too. And let me applaud you for your perceptiveness. I still think Clark would have been great, but I've always liked Biden. I thought he'd be wonderful as Secretary of State, so I think he's a good choice for VP.
Now that I think about it, the Democrats had a lot of good choices. Obama must have had a difficult time picking from all the available talent.
